unnamed sculpture no. 4, 1990
metal, mixed mediaPart of a series of installations consisting of mixed-media sculptures that can be considered as variations on a single theme; a hollow, bird-like skull with an elongated beak modeled in cloth, covered with layers of beeswax and mixed with pigment, is presented together with a wooden structure.
The work at hand is an ingenious installation. The principal object is placed on the floor, adjacent to the round wooden panel that is propped up by a metal pole. Appreciating the materials’ raw and natural beautiful qualities, the contrasting yellow band gives it a very modern appeal. The bird’s cranium and the recycled materials, may provoke certain nostalgia, because each element carries its own history. As an arrangement, the objects create a new enigmatic narrative that is up to the viewer to explore.
