Unification of Sky and earth, 1989
mixed media on canvas, 150x110cmIn the late 1980’s Cecchini made a series of works that consisted of vibrant monochromatic colourfields, of which the current painting may be the largest. It could be viewed as a colourscape. The yellow, uneven, colour plane is manipulated with gentle brushwork and staining. It seems to stir up a sense of movement. Its intensity creates a powerful mood when standing before it. This effect is strengthened by the painting’s mighty title. White lines are drawn, appearing like constellations. These lines add a degree of dimensionality and a certain metaphysical potential.
